She helps patients of all ages and activity levels move better, recover from injury and stay active, with care that treats the whole person rather than only the place it hurts.
Why Dr. Kurra Co-Founded CT Sports Recovery
Dr. Kurra founded the practice out of a determination to bring hands-on care back to medicine. Her commitment is to help patients of all ages and activity levels find effective, personalized solutions so they can return to the activities they enjoy and keep doing the things that matter most.
Treatments Dr. Kurra Provides:
- Comprehensive physiatry evaluation: a hands-on exam to find the root cause of pain.
- Lifestyle & nutrition medicine: guidance on nutrition, sleep and daily habits for lasting health.
- Rehabilitation & injury-prevention programs: exercise and return-to-activity plans with the practice's certified trainers.
A Whole-Person Approach to Pain & Recovery
Her care centers on understanding the whole person, not simply treating the location of pain. She believes meaningful recovery begins with listening, identifying the underlying contributors to symptoms, and developing an individualized treatment plan that supports each patient’s goals.
What Does a Physiatrist Do?
Physiatrists are physicians trained in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. They diagnose and treat conditions of the muscles, bones, joints and nerves that affect how a person moves and functions, with a focus on non-surgical care and restoring the ability to do everyday activities and sports.
Who Dr. Kurra Treats
Patients of all ages and activity levels, including children and youth athletes. Dr. Kurra cares for young athletes with sports and overuse injuries, active adults who want to stay in the game, people with nerve-related symptoms such as numbness, tingling or radiating pain, and anyone recovering from injury or living with pain who wants a hands-on, non-surgical plan built around their goals.
He then stayed on for a year to continue caring for his patients and to teach residents primary care and osteopathic manipulative medicine. In Rhode Island he served as a teaching physician in the Brown University Family Medicine Program and as Osteopathic Site Coordinator for its Pawtucket location before returning to Connecticut, where he now practices.
Beyond the Office
As a physician, mother and advocate for healthy living, Dr. Kurra understands that health is about more than living longer. It is about having the ability to participate fully in life.
